General Information


Bülent Yılmaz was born in 1974 in Giresun, Turkey. In 1992, he was accepted to Middle East Technical University, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. In 1997, he graduated from this department and pursued his career in academia as a research assistant in the same department. He defended his master’s thesis at the end of 1999 and started his graduate education towards PhD in the Bioengineering Department of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. During his PhD thesis he dealt with the localization of heart rhythm disturbances using statistical signal processing techniques. The Whitaker Foundation sponsored his graduate study.

Dr. Yılmaz started his academic career in 2004 as an assistant professor of biomedical engineering in Başkent University, Ankara. He contributed to the education of the first biomedical engineers of Turkey in this institute. In 2011, he was invited to become a part of the founding team to Abdullah Gül University, Kayseri. He is serving as the vice rector for education and as the chair of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department.

His major research interests are biomedical signal and image processing, especially brain-computer interface and automatic disease detection. He is also interested in innovative higher education systems and implementations. He taught many undergraduate and graduate courses in the abovementioned institutions. He participated in several projects as the principle investigator and investigator. Dr. Yılmaz has been serving as the team leader for the new generation university design project at AGU which is sponsored by the government. He served as the panelist and referee for many academic or industry projects.
