In this study, the recovery of zinc (Zn) from a carbonated zinc ore by sulfuric acid (H2SO4) leaching was investigated. The effects of acid concentration, leaching time and temperature parameters on Zn dissolution were investigated using Box Behnken test design, which is one of the response surface methodologies of statistical analysis. Stirring speed, particle size and solid ratio values were determined as fixed parameters. Zn dissolution values were calculated by XRF analysis on the basis of the Zn grades in the insoluble solid and the weight of the insoluble solid. Mineral dissolution and newly formed synthetic mineral assets were revealed by XRD analysis. The results show that the temperature and acid concentration parameters are more effective in Zn dissolution. At the end of the leaching process of 15-120 minutes, Zn dissolution values of 74-96% were obtained. Considering that the smithsonite mineral dissolves rapidly, extra leaching experiments were carried out for 5 minutes at a concentration of 1 M H2SO4 and at 3 different temperatures. It was determined that the Zn dissolution rates in these experiments varied between 69-84%.
