Abstract

As the concept of Sustainable Development gained importance over time, businesses began to focus more on sustainability. Numerous certification systems have emerged to be used as evidence of their efforts in economic, social, and environmental fields and to ensure supply chain sustainability. These standards have defined environmental, social, and economic criteria for specific areas. The purpose of this research was to conduct a conceptual analysis of the sustainability certification systems. Unrestricted sector searches of the certification standards established for this purpose yielded 6 certification systems. These certification standards are categorized by the sustainability dimension and industry in which they are applicable. The subjects of the certificates are dominated by environmental concerns, while other aspects are subject to change. Despite differences in the industries they cover and the scope of their examination, it is evident that these sustainability certifications support growth throughout the supply chain. Therefore, this study contributed to the development of certification systems and indirectly to the enhancement of the industrial sustainable development process. The study's findings were instructive for certification systems, policymakers, and industry professionals
