Özet

Sustainability is a priority among today's worldwide concerns, and higher education institutions play a significant role in their development. Universities should serve as a model for society by embracing concepts of environmental, economic, and social sustainability, according to the green university idea, which underlines the importance of such institutions. This study evaluated the sustainability performance of 97 universities in Türkiye using UI GreenMetric 2023 indicators, including energy, infrastructure, water, waste, and transportation. These indicators constitute the outputs of the constant returns to scale-based Data Envelopment Analysis model, while a dummy input variable is incorporated into the model. In accordance with the findings of the investigation, only sixteen out of a total of ninety-seven universities were deemed to be efficient, and the average efficiency value was determined to be 0.817. In order to improve the performance of ineffective universities, effective universities that can serve as a benchmark for improving their own performance and the target output values that they need to achieve were identified. This approach provided institutions with a roadmap to enhance their sustainability performance. In addition to shedding light on the establishment of sustainability policies and contributing to the complete evaluation of green university performances, this research also provides strategic improvement ideas for poor-performing institutions and adds to the evaluation of green university performances.
