Abstract

This paper presents the design criteria, procedure and implementation of an AC-DC Flyback Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) which provides 250W rated average power to a big size Colour Television (CTV) Set with a DVD player. A novel technique is developed to keep the Stand-By power consumption of Flyback SMPS under 1W and a boost type of Active Power Factor Correction (Active PFC) pre- converter is incorporated into the Flyback SMPS in order to comply with the European CENELEC EN61000-2-3 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standard[4] which deals with the input current harmonic values of equipments.
