The population growth at urban areas is getting
faster. New construction sites are hard to find, especially in modern, crowded cities,
therefore using underground spaces become necessary to construct tall buildings
and parking spaces. Deep excavations can be supported using some systems like,
sheet pile walls, braced walls, diaphragm walls and pile walls etc.
Determination of the efficient deep excavation support system requires data
collection related with soil condition and properties, model analysis, design
and monitoring. In this study, 2D Finite element model is developed using RS2
to analyze the performance of anchored sheet pile wall, axial load analysis,
maximum bending moment value of the sheet pile and displacement of the wall.
Mohr Coulomb failure criterion is used as a strength parameter for the soil.
Results of the study indicate that anchored sheet pile wall provides safe
ground movements due to the deep excavation. In addition, significant reduction
at bending moment values and wall deformations is possible with tie back sheet
pile wall support system.
